Another year…

I can’t believe another year’s gone by. I’m officially the mother of two little boys? Huh? I keep looking at them, and thinking about how far they’ve come from the NICU days, and all the different places they can go in life. I still sometimes just look at them and cry. Because I can’t imagine anyone as beautiful and wonderful as they are. Oh, they drive me up the wall from time to time. But I would never, ever have it any other way.

Baby Stuff:

August 15th, 2007

23 weeks today. One week until viability. *crosses fingers*

One of the reasons I’m excited about viability is because I refuse to buy or do anything baby-specific until then. But next week I’ll feel a bit more comfortable about it. There isn’t much stuff on the registry, and only one “Must Have” item (bassinet). But I’d like to get the purchasing out of the way regardless. I’m still haunted by just finishing getting everything for the boys before I was put in the hospital.

I’ve had heartburn like whoa lately, so I’ve been crunching down massively on the antacid. This is actually a double benefit, since I’m supposed to be taking excess Calcium anyway to counteract the Heparin.

I’ve decided to name the baby “Eustace” until Matt helps me find a name for him. If he doesn’t, “Eustace” it will be!

Went to run errands with the boys yesterday, and Nathan started walking down the stairs ahead of me, which is fine. He knows how to hold on, and goes slowly, one step at a time. What I wasn’t anticipating, however, was that some jackass had thrown a circular in a plastic bag onto my steps. I noticed it, but couldn’t stop Nathan in time, and he slipped and fell down the rest of the steps onto the ground. The right side of his face is all scratched up now. I just want to give up.

An evening in the PICU.

Well, I almost managed to get them both to 2 without anything major happening…

About 8PM last night, Matt noticed that Bastian had the DVD remote, had managed to get the back off, and that the battery was missing. Matt swept his mouth and didn’t find anything, and then started looking around the floor for it while I checked Bastian again. Sniffing his hands and mouth, they both smelled metallic, and given Bastian’s penchant for shoving things in his mouth, I was pretty sure he had swallowed it (one of those flat disk ones, about nickel-sized).

The boys had some digestive issues over the last few days that gave them loose stool. Bastian had it first, and for the shortest amount of time. Then Nathan got it for a few days longer, and got some pretty bad diaper rash for a couple of days. Now, it would appear *I* have it. It started Thursday night, and I this is the third day in a row. My butt is very sad.

Baby Stuff: 22w0d appointment:

August 8th, 2007

How the hell am I 22 weeks already?! Two weeks until viability. Holy cow.

Baby got pissed off that Dr. Frech was listening with the Doppler so long and kicked me from the inside to get the probe off. And I mean hard.

Blood pressure is great (118/80), and no protein in my urine.

I’ve only gained 1.5 pounds according to their scales, which means I lost a bunch of that water weight again. Excellent.

Swelling’s mostly gone down, in my hands and legs, but she said to let her know if I woke up swollen, or if it spread to the rest of my body.

I have to keep cool and hydrated.

She puts my chances of developing severe pre-eclampsia again at 25%. That makes me very happy. She doesn’t think it’ll be an issue this time around at all.

Next appointment is in 2 weeks, then I start going weekly.

Ask me for a name for a baby girl, and I could rattle off about 20 that I’d love to give to a daughter.

Ask me for a name for a baby boy, and I feel like a deer in headlights.

We have a strong potential for a name, but we’re still not sure. And forget about trying to figure out a middle name. Maybe next month.

Baby Stuff:

My hands have been unhappy and swollen for three days now. This is earlier than when it started with the boys (by 4 weeks), but I’m not going to think anything of it besides “weather” right now. My blood pressure is still fine (L-115/68 and R-111/70 yesterday morning), and my urine is tested every two weeks anyway.But I have put on 5 pounds in water weight, and can indent my leg when touching it. I’ll discuss it with Dr. Frech tomorrow, and just try to stay cool and drink a lot for now.

I didn’t realize that I’ve been subconsciously freaking out about breastfeeding this baby until I asked my BF mentor about some stuff that was worrying me. I got her comforting email and just started crying. Actually, I’m started to cry all over again. I’m not sure why I’m freaking out about it, but I’m pretty sure it’s because there’s still a tiny part of me that feels like I “failed” with the boys. *ducks stuff being thrown at her head* Yes, I know that’s stupid. But it’s still there.

I hate this heat. It’s kicking my ass…
